Suede

This is one of the most popular types of shoe leather, initially this type of leather was made with the skin of suede, a goat that lives in the Balkan region, then “suede” came to name any animal skin tannery (goats, cows, , lambs, etc.) where an inner layer of leather was sanded to obtain a velvety and pleasant texture.

Unfortunately, because suede is thinner, it is not as durable as roughout, among other thicker types of leather.

Nubuck

Made from cowhide leather, nubuck (or nubuck in some places) is made from a high-grain piece that is sanded down to a velvety surface, with a slightly softer touch than suede and also more water resistant.

The word nubuck comes from “new buck” (in this case “buck” can mean skin) and it is one of the most suitable types of shoe leather to face heavy work.
